What ages do you teach? We teach ages 2-5, and the child must be the appropriate age for their enrolled class by September 1st. For example, to enroll in the 2 year old program, your child must be 2 before September 1st. Otherwise, they will need to wait until the following year to enroll.
How many days are the children in school? The 2 and 3 year old classes offer two options: a three day week (Tuesday -Thursday) or a four day week (Monday - Thursday). The 4 year old class has these options as well as a five day week (Monday - Friday).
What are the school hours? We offer a weekday program from 9:00am until 1:00pm.
Do you follow the Cherokee County School calendar? Yes! We have the same breaks that Cherokee county does. In addition, we have additional Catholic holidays that we follow. If Cherokee county cancels or delays school, we also cancel. We do not make up any weather related or emergency absent days. School closings can be found on the CCSD website or local news websites and will also be communicated via our preschool communication system (Class DoJo), email, and/or text.
Do you have carpool? Yes! Carpool begins at 8:45 in the morning and goes until 9:00. After this time, you will need to park and bring your child to our front door. Afternoon carpool starts at 1:00, but early checkout is available until 12:45.
Do you offer after school care? Yes! Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, we offer after school care until 3:30, for a small additional fee. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more details.
Are there any after school programs? Yes! We partner with trusted programs to offer music and movement, ballet, and kidokinetics at the preschool. Please reach out for further information on these great offerings! Do the children stay for lunch? Yes! Unless you are checking your child out early, all children will bring their lunch every day and eat together as a class. We pray the blessing over our meals before we eat.
What if my child has allergies? Will you accommodate? Absolutely! If your child has an allergy, please alert us so we can make the best accommodations to ensure their safety. We use obvious signage and open communication if there is a child with allergies present in the classroom. We make sure that each class is well aware and suited to handle allergies. All of our staff have received EpiPen training.
What are the qualifications of the staff? We do not require teachers to be certified, though many are! We do require that all lead teachers have teaching experience, and every staff member has to complete 10 hours of continuing education training in the field of early childhood or child development. Our main concern is that the teachers are loving, caring, and responsible. Each of our teachers has been carefully vetted, VIRTUS certified, and carefully background checked. They also have been CPR, first aid, and fire safety trained.
What curriculum do you follow? We use a theme-based comprehensive curriculum where we incorporate language, emergent literacy, writing, math, art, movement, and Spanish. We use the STREAM approach in all of or lesson plans to offer a comprehensive educational experience. Our curriculum exceeds the Georgia Office of School Readiness guidelines, and we incorporate sightwords.com (a reading readiness program endorsed by the Georgia Preschool Association) as part of our curriculum. Everything we teach is infused with Catholic virtues and with the love of Jesus.
How do you teach religion? We incorporate stories, finger plays, felt board stories, and dramatization into our weekly lessons on religion. Each class starts with a prayer and we end our school day with a school-wide prayer. Every class goes to the sanctuary each week for a special lesson, and we oftentimes go to the prayer garden for further reflection and learning. We celebrate many feast days and highlight a new saint, new prayer, new virtue, and new manner each month.
How can parents be involved? We encourage parents to be involved in their child's class by attending special parties, being surprise readers, and attending special events. Each month, a calendar will be sent home that marks special events.
What is your discipline policy? We give every student the opportunity to take negative behavior and turn it into positive behavior. We offer incentives in each classroom and always reward positive behavior. There is a no tolerance policy to keep our classrooms safe, and we work closely with the parents to ensure appropriate behavior is being shown. How do I pay tuition? We utilize Brightwheel to make paying tuition worry-free. All payments are online.
Is my registration fee refundable? No. The registration fee is non-refundable.
What does the registration fee pay for? The fee pays for many items including bags, folders, t-shirts, supplies, etc.
Is there a waitlist if registration is full? Yes! We will have a waitlist for each class that does fill up. You will be notified as to which place you are on the waitlist, but there is no guarantee that a spot will open. The order we accept waitlisted students is: current students, family members of current students, members of St. Michael's parish, Catholic members of another parish, and non-Catholics.
