Baptism marks the entry of the believer into the Christian community. It is the first Sacrament of Initiation, leading to the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and welcomed as sons and daughters into God’s family, brothers and sisters to Jesus Christ. Through grace we enter into a personal relationship with God and begin a journey whose final destination is eternal life. Baptism leaves us permanently changed, no longer the person we once were, but a new person, dying to death and sin, and rising to new life in Christ. In the words of St. Paul, "We were buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so too may we live a new life." (Romans 6:4)
Baptism Preparation for Infants and Young Children
Parents must be registered, active, practicing members of St. Michael's for at least three months before scheduling a Baptism for their child.
Parents will need to attend a Baptism class which is held on the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. The class will be in room 230 on March 14; room 206 on April 11 and May 9. The class will remain in 206 for the rest of 2026. You do not have to register for the class in order to attend, and the Baptism class is good for three years.
Parents will need to select Godparents for their child who are active, practicing Catholics. If the Godparents are not members of St. Michael's parish, a sponsor certificate will need to be obtained from the parish where they are registered. If the Godparent is married, they must be married in the Catholic Church. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age and must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Baptisms are usually held the first and third Saturdays of the month at 11:30am in the church. Please contact the Parish Office to schedule the Baptism.
